Tree Service in Citrus County, FL

Citrus County sits on Florida's Nature Coast, where the land sits just a few feet above sea level and the soil stays moist year-round from the Homosassa, Crystal, and Withlacoochee river systems. That low elevation and high water table means tree roots spread wide and shallow rather than deep, making large trees more prone to tipping in tropical storm winds than they would be on higher ground inland. The county's housing stock is a mix of older waterfront cottages built in the 1960s and 1970s, retirement communities in Sugarmill Woods and Citrus Hills, and rural properties along US 19. Each property type brings different tree service needs, from tight lot access near the water to large-scale clearing on acreage parcels.

Nature Coast Properties Need Crews Who Respect the Terrain

The low elevation across Citrus County means the ground stays saturated for much of the year, especially near the Homosassa and Crystal rivers. Saturated soil loosens the grip around tree root balls, and a tree that looked stable in dry season can lean or fall after a heavy rain. Trimming to reduce crown weight is one of the most practical things a property owner can do to lower that risk.

Retirement communities in Sugarmill Woods and Citrus Hills have mature landscaping that was installed when those developments were built in the 1980s and 1990s. Many of those trees are now large enough to threaten rooflines, driveways, and utility lines. We work in these communities regularly and understand the access constraints that come with tighter lot spacing and community roads.

We keep a manager on every job site and answer the phone at all hours. That matters in Citrus County, where a tropical storm can push a tree onto a roof overnight. When you call, you get a direct answer about what needs to happen and when we can be there.

Every service, available in Citrus County, FL

Tree trimming is in high demand across Citrus County because the warm, wet climate pushes tree growth fast, and overhanging limbs over waterfront homes and retirement community rooftops become hazards before homeowners realize it. Tree removal is frequently needed on older properties in Crystal River and Floral City, where trees planted in the 1960s and 1970s have reached the end of their structural life. Stump grinding is a standard follow-up service, especially in Sugarmill Woods and Citrus Hills where HOA landscaping standards require clean ground after a removal. Land clearing supports new construction and lot prep on the rural parcels between Lecanto and Inverness.

I have used Browns Tree Service 3 times in the past 3+ years. They were initially recommended to me by a neighbor. Recently I hired them to do some extensive tree work. It was an all day job removing some serious tree growth that could become a threat to our home, especially considering another hurricane season is approaching. The crew arrived when scheduled and went right to work. I had some concern that they could damage my lawn with their motorized equipment. Owner, Trevor Brown assured me they would put down large rubber pads to protect our lawn and it worked like a charm. His crew, Brandon, Ray, Ron and Cory went right to work and did an incredible job cutting and carefully lowering huge limbs to preclude any damage. At the end of the day the entire job from start to finish was done in excellent fashion including some serious clean up. I can highly recommend Browns Tree service and I'm giving them a well deserved 5 star rating. Let me add that includes, what I considered, a very reasonable price. Thanks again Trevor and your entire crew for a great job… Len Smith, Dunnellon, Fl

We recently needed to have two trees removed from our property. I secured two bids for the work, one of those bids was from Trevor Brown. We chose Brown's Tree Service for two reasons. The first reason was on the recommendation from a neighbor who had had some extensive work done last year. The second reason is Trevor's assurance that his workers would put down protective rubber mats on our lawn as the machinery ran over it. The workers arrived on time, took the trees down, and completely cleaned up all remnants of the two trees. The next day one of his workers ground the two stumps to ground level. Based on our experience with Brown's Tree Service, I would highly recommend them to anyone needing tree work in the Dunnellon area

Tree Service FAQ for Citrus County, FL

Common questions from Citrus County, FL customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Trees near the Homosassa River grow in soil that stays wet for much of the year, which limits how deep roots can anchor. Wide, shallow root systems give the tree less resistance to wind and soil movement, especially after heavy rain softens the ground further. Regular crown trimming to reduce wind load is the most effective way to lower the risk of a tree tipping on a waterfront property.

Yes, we work in Sugarmill Woods and Citrus Hills regularly. These communities have mature trees from the 1980s and 1990s that now overhang rooftops, driveways, and community roads. We work within the access constraints of these neighborhoods, including narrow streets and close lot spacing, and we clean up completely before leaving.

Laurel oak is one of the most common problem trees in Citrus County because it grows fast, lives a shorter life than live oak, and tends to develop internal decay before showing visible signs of stress. Water oak and sand pine also drop large limbs with little warning, especially after wet summers. Trimming these species on a regular schedule catches structural problems before they become emergencies.

Land clearing on rural parcels between Lecanto and Inverness is a service we provide. These lots often have a mix of sand pine, scrub oak, and palmetto that needs to be cleared to grade before construction can begin. We can work to the clearing spec the builder or owner needs and leave the site ready for the next step.
