Tree Service in Homosassa, FL

Homosassa sits on the west side of US 19 in Citrus County, just a few feet above sea level along the Homosassa River. The area is a mix of older waterfront homes, rural residential lots, and properties near Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, and the tree canopy reflects the wet, low-lying terrain. Cypress, water oak, and slash pine dominate near the river, while live oak and sand pine are common on the slightly higher ground farther east. Properties here often have trees growing close to seawalls, docks, and older wood-frame structures, which limits the drop zone for removal work and requires sectioning trees from the top down.

Waterfront Tree Work in Homosassa Requires a Different Skill Set

Properties along the Homosassa River sit at an elevation of roughly three feet above sea level, and the soil stays saturated for much of the year. Saturated soil reduces the grip around root balls, and trees that look stable in dry weather can lean or tip after a wet summer. Trimming to reduce crown weight on waterfront trees is one of the most practical steps a property owner can take before storm season.

Older wood-frame homes near the river were built in the 1960s and 1970s, and the trees planted with those homes are now large enough to cause serious damage if they fail. Working around these structures requires sectioning trees from the top down rather than felling them, because the drop zone is almost always occupied by a dock, seawall, or neighboring property. We rig each section before cutting so it lands where we plan.

We put a manager on every job site and answer the phone at all hours. In a waterfront community like Homosassa, a tree that falls into the river or onto a dock overnight is an emergency that cannot wait until morning. When you call, you get a direct answer about what we can do and when we can be there.

Every service, available in Homosassa, FL

Tree trimming is the most requested service in Homosassa because the wet climate along the river corridor pushes growth fast, and overhanging branches over docks, seawalls, and older wood-frame homes become hazards quickly. Tree removal is common on waterfront properties where cypress and water oak have grown too close to structures to be safely trimmed back. Stump grinding on these lots requires working around root systems that often extend toward the water, and we grind the full root flare to prevent regrowth near the seawall. Land clearing is in demand on the rural parcels east of US 19 where new owners are preparing lots for construction.

I have used Browns Tree Service 3 times in the past 3+ years. They were initially recommended to me by a neighbor. Recently I hired them to do some extensive tree work. It was an all day job removing some serious tree growth that could become a threat to our home, especially considering another hurricane season is approaching. The crew arrived when scheduled and went right to work. I had some concern that they could damage my lawn with their motorized equipment. Owner, Trevor Brown assured me they would put down large rubber pads to protect our lawn and it worked like a charm. His crew, Brandon, Ray, Ron and Cory went right to work and did an incredible job cutting and carefully lowering huge limbs to preclude any damage. At the end of the day the entire job from start to finish was done in excellent fashion including some serious clean up. I can highly recommend Browns Tree service and I'm giving them a well deserved 5 star rating. Let me add that includes, what I considered, a very reasonable price. Thanks again Trevor and your entire crew for a great job… Len Smith, Dunnellon, Fl

We recently needed to have two trees removed from our property. I secured two bids for the work, one of those bids was from Trevor Brown. We chose Brown's Tree Service for two reasons. The first reason was on the recommendation from a neighbor who had had some extensive work done last year. The second reason is Trevor's assurance that his workers would put down protective rubber mats on our lawn as the machinery ran over it. The workers arrived on time, took the trees down, and completely cleaned up all remnants of the two trees. The next day one of his workers ground the two stumps to ground level. Based on our experience with Brown's Tree Service, I would highly recommend them to anyone needing tree work in the Dunnellon area

Tree Service FAQ for Homosassa, FL

Common questions from Homosassa, FL customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Trees over docks and seawalls in Homosassa cannot be felled in a single cut because there is no safe drop zone. We section the tree from the top down, rigging each piece with ropes to control where it lands before making the cut. This approach takes longer than a straight fell but protects the dock, seawall, and any boats or structures below.

Cypress trees near the river are generally trimmed to remove deadwood and any branches extending over structures, but they should not be topped or heavily reduced because that weakens the tree's structure and invites decay. Live cypress along the Homosassa River can have wide buttressed bases that make stump grinding more involved if the tree needs to come down. We assess the base spread before quoting a removal so there are no surprises.

Land clearing on the rural parcels east of US 19 near Homosassa is a service we provide. These lots typically have a mix of sand pine, scrub oak, and palmetto that needs to be cleared before a foundation can be laid. We work to the clearing spec the owner or builder needs and can handle selective clearing to keep mature trees while opening the build area.

Water oak and sand pine are the most common failure species near the Homosassa River during storms. Water oak develops internal decay faster than live oak and often shows no visible warning signs until a limb or the whole tree fails. Sand pine has a shallow root system that gives it little resistance to wind on saturated soil. Both species benefit from regular trimming to reduce crown weight before storm season.
